The Balsam Centre is inviting the Wincanton community to come together to recognise, support and celebrate the uniqueness of all families at a special event this summer.
Family Pride Day, which takes place at The Balsam Centre on Saturday 3 August, is billed as a celebration of the diversity of the Wincanton area community and the uniqueness found in all families. It is supported by 2BU-Somerset, a specialist support service serving the needs of young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ+) people across Somerset.
Activities on the day, which is free to attend, include pizza-making, a glitter hair bar, friendship bracelet-making and other crafting activities, face painting and a collaborative community art piece, as well as the chance to get up close with a real fire engine and meet the firefighters from Wincanton Fire Station. With a clear message of acceptance and inclusivity, organisers are hoping local people will come together to celebrate everything that makes their family unique and special.
Balsam Centre Deputy CEO Emma Brown said, “Our Family Pride Day is intended as an inclusive, intergenerational day of recognition, support and celebration for our LGBTQ+ community and allies, and we’re encouraging all local families to join in the fun. Diversity comes in many forms – including race, ethnicity, neurodivergence and age – and we want everyone to feel they can come together on the day, in celebration of the difference but also what connects us all together.”
Family Pride Day takes place at The Balsam Centre in Wincanton on Saturday 3 August and runs from 10.30am to 2.30pm. Entry is free. For more information go to https://www.balsamcentre.org.uk/events-1/family-pride-day
