The annual Winter Fair took place at Wincanton Racecourse on Saturday 16 November, raising a phenomenal £30,000 in just five hours – an increase of almost 50% on the previous year!
The keenest shoppers were waiting in line from as early as 8.30am and, by the time the doors opened at 10am, the queue was snaking long into the distance. Many people were there for the preloved clothing stall, which has become well known amongst vintage clothing aficionados for its curation of high-quality second-hand pieces at fair prices. The trash and treasure stall was similarly popular with vintage lovers, while others made a beeline for the beautifully presented goods on the deli and plant stalls. Almost everything sold on the day had been handmade, donated, upcycled or repurposed, a sustainable approach that has become the Winter Fair’s hallmark.
The Winter Fair is the biggest fundraising event in The Balsam Centre’s calendar, and all proceeds directly support our projects within the local community. Its success is entirely down to an incredible group of volunteers who work all year to bring the Fair together. For many months beforehand, they gather donations from far and wide, and then sort and curate them into the well-presented stalls that shoppers enjoy on the day. Everyone at The Balsam Centre is in awe of their energy and commitment!
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the event. See you next year!
